BBC Radio Stoke
2015年5月5日BBC Radio Stoke cuts could be scaled back after trust recommendation
The interim findings of the BBC Trust’s Delivering Quality First report reveal 40 per cent of respondents nationally were opposed to programme sharing during weekday afternoons, with 35 per cent neutral and 25 per cent in favour. It showed strong support for the BBC’s 40 local radio stations, with most listeners believing they performed a vital role with listeners expressing how they appreciated local knowledge and liked hearing local accents.
The report adds: "We therefore think the scale and impact of the cuts, although lower in financial terms than for many other parts of the BBC, is disproportionate to the value of these services and have asked the executive to consider again their proposals.
"Local radio must be appropriately resourced to do this, and we would expect any revised proposition to include a scaling back of the efficiency savings identified to make sure our local Multicolor Leather Lady Peep 140mm content is always distinctive and of high quality."
Radio Stoke declined to comment, but a spokesman for the BBC Executive said: "We note the Trust’s request for us to make changes to our proposals in local radio and regional current affairs.
"These proposals have required us to Patent Leather Lady Peep 140mm make some tough choices and we are glad in the vast majority of cases we will be able to progress with changes we believe are necessary to ensure a future BBC that is sustainable."
Latest figures show that Radio Stoke’s listening figures rose by 46 per cent in the past year, from a weekly audience of 143,000 in September Black Leather Lady Super 160mm 2010, to 209,000 in September 2011. Only one other BBC radio station, 5 Live Sports Extra, recorded a bigger boost over the same period.
A final decision on the plans, which sparked outrage from staff unions and the city’s three MPs, is expected later this year.
Former Radio Stoke presenter Terry Walsh, who welcomed the review, said: "Radio Stoke is one of the crown jewels for the BBC. It does something no other part of the BBC is able to do. It has direct contact with the real people who pay their licence fees."
In February, 1949 I joined the Stoke on Trent City Police. After a training period I was posted to Burslem. A different Police Force than today. The majority of Officers were on foot, on the beats, or specific areas. When you went out at night, there was no contact with anyone, only via public telephone, if you had problems in between, too bad, you were on your own. At Burslem one of the first duties at night, was to the Nile Street Brickworks, The kilns that had just been emptied and were still warm, were the haunt of the local down and outs, including the best known character, Vincent Riley, of methelated spirits fame. If the kilns were cold, they would light a brazier fire in the middle and close off the vents with metal sheeting. After a training period I was posted to Burslem.
